There was no “normal” meeting this time, but 22 Members, Partners and Guests headed off for a one and a half hour guided tour of the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bullcreek.
The museum is full of Australian aviation history and commemorates the achievements and sacrifices of Australian air force personnel. Our guides explained the history and workings of the full size aeroplanes on display - a Lancaster bomber, Spitfire, Catalina, DC3 etc., and many other items of interest to do with aviation history. It was an enormous display in two large sheds and warranted a lot more time than 1.5 hours.
The outing was of particular interest to Sue Bursill whose father flew Lancaster bombers in WWII. There was also a uniform on display, exactly the style which Sue had worn during her many years as a hostess with MMA. The overall presentation of the exhibits was outstanding and the guided tour was extremely interesting and informative. Thanks to our guides Dave and Rebecca.
After the tour we all enjoyed an excellent lunch at the restaurant on site.
Thanks to the Ladies Social Committee and particularly Jan Puddey for all her organisation of the day, and to
Von Graham for coming up with the idea in the first place. (Thanks too to Pres. Frank for this summary).
