We met a very impressive young lady at this week’s meeting – Natasha Dun came along to tell us all about her experience as an attendee at the recent Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) week-long programme. Natasha grew up in Melbourne, and after leaving school she did an environmental engineering degree which led her into contamination consulting. She moved to Brisbane in 2023, but she is now a FIFO worker in Port Hedland here in WA, working on water processing and treatment. Natasha is very keen on sport and fitness, and she has made it up to the Mt Everest Base Camp – not an easy task for someone brought up at sea level! In January this year Natasha was chosen to attend the RYLA week-long camp at Serpentine, and she thoroughly enjoyed the way the programme focussed on developing a range of skills including participating in Toastmasters, team bonding and organising events. The important lessons that Natasha learned included the value of diversity, the importance of vulnerability, the realisation of being in a privileged situation, developing confidence, and how to handle adversity. Natasha played us a video which summarised the camaraderie of her week with Rotary, and her session ended with many people present asking questions and making comments. A very impressive morning all round!A Glimpse Into the RYLA Programme
