Our Rotary Exchange Student, Alzbeta Dvorakova – better known to us as Betty – came along this week to tell us all about her time here in Australia, and what a good job she made of it! Betty arrived on 21st July 2023 and started school a few days later, and clearly she has enjoyed meeting the host of people that she has encountered, including many Exchange Students from around the world. Betty has participated in kayaking; being part of a Surf Club; and of course, surfing – the latter under the watchful eye of our member Geoff. She has also been on a number of trips, one to Sydney in November; the Margaret River area a few times; Yallingup; Rottnest; Denmark; Lancelin; Mandurah; and the North West – on a safari! It was on the latter that Betty went to an Aboriginal School (which made a lasting impression on her) and she visited the Karajini National Park, Ningaloo Reef (where she saw a whale shark!), and Monkey Mia. Betty was also fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Australis. A few visits to an AFL game didn’t quite convert Betty into a fanatical supporter, but she may describe herself as an Eagles fan! One of the most memorable experiences that Betty has had is the Western Australian sunsets, and she has taken a huge number of photos to show the folks back home. Betty expressed sincere thanks to Rotary and to her Host Parents for everything, and she declared that she wouldn’t change anything if she was able to do it all again. Thank you Betty; you have been a gem, and we have loved having you here!
