District Governor Veronica Lawrence made her official visit to our Club on 27th August, and we also welcomed members of the Western Endeavour Rotary Club to the proceedings. Not surprisingly it turned out to be a very busy get-together! Veronica is a member of the Mill Point Rotary Club, and she started her address by presenting Pres. Max with a Club Excellence Award which acknowledges the achievements of our Club over the last 12 months. Veronica’s theme for the year is ‘Up Up and Away’ and she urged us all to step forward with intent and to make relevant changes to the way we do things. By doing so we can tell the general public what the Club does, and this will lead to more people becoming interested in joining whilst at the same time reducing the cost per member. An integral part of this is the existence of Rotary Community Groups and Leaders which aim to help tell the public what Rotary does. Our District has around 1700 members now, and Veronica proposed that we should chase an increase of 20% over the next year – 340 new members or around 4 per club. Some future activities were highlighted: 24 October Ride the Train to end Polio; 13 to 15 March 2026 District Conference in Northam; 2027 Rotary WA turns 100! Ross Bolton, Manager of the Bowling Club, then updated us on proposed developments at the venue which will benefit us all.
