Our Member, Rod Lane gave a very interesting talk on his business life from humble beginnings in Midland Junction to some very important job positions along the way until his retirement. In Year 10, he was faced with a difficult decision. Accept Bursary and go to Perth Modern School/Go to new State School Governor Stirling High/Leave school and start working. His first job was with ES&A Bank after which he joined Town & Country Building Society. From there he changed to Government position with the Town Planning Department and then to the Small Business Development Corporation. Finally finishing with his own Consultancy business as a Trouble Shooter. His advice to all young people today was:
1. Keep learning
2. Obtain University degree
3. Join Professional bodies
4. Continue study and obtain technical diplomas
5. Attend Conferences – Discussion Groups
6. Join Business Associations including Rotary.
The above all to be supplemented by “on the job learning”.
We think you made the best decision Rod, as you achieved a very successful and fulfilling career.
David James thanked Rod on behalf of the Members for a very interesting and informative presentation.
