This week we hosted Student Councillors, Teachers and Parents from 6 local Primary Schools, and they came along to hear from a very energetic lady – Nancy Shaw who is the 2026 winner, female division, of the 100 Mile WA Cape to Cape Ultra Marathon. Nancy is married, has two teenage children, and she works at Hale School as an Academic Administrator. British by birth, Nancy emigrated to Australia in 2018, and she is a keen runner and swimmer; hence her participation in the Cape to Cape Ultra Marathon from Augusta up to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, and then down to Yallingup. The distance in total is 160 kms (100 miles), but Nancy did 169 kms due to taking a few wrong turns and then having to retrace her steps so as not to miss registering at each of the Aid Stations along the way. Nancy runs with a back-pack weighing about 6 kgs, and it contains support items including food and water. Her message to all present was: Do Hard Things; Plan Prepare and Execute; Move On from Mistakes; Don’t Compare Yourself With Others; Support Others; Keep Moving Forward Is A Speed!; Be Comfortable About Being Uncomfortable; Stop To Smell The Roses; Let The Emotions Out; and Feel The Joy when you cross the finishing line. Nancy was the first female home this year, having completed the course in 31 hours and 38 minutes – that’s 5.34 kms per hour!!
