This week’s activity was once again very different from the norm, and we all headed off to Tassels Place Bar & Bistro for a lunch meeting. The usual meeting format was abandoned for the day, and it turned out to be very interesting indeed. We occupied a private room at the venue, and the number of people present was in the mid-twenties, including a good sprinkling of non-Rotarian guests. All present were able to order a hearty meal from the Bar to begin with, and there was equally hearty chatter as we all enjoyed our lunch. Frank then introduced our Guest Speaker – Radio and TV Star Sandra Harris Ramini. Perth born Sandra worked for the ABC to begin with, but she soon headed off to London and became involved with the BBC and later Thames Television as a reporter who specialised in interviewing many remarkably well-known people, often in unusual circumstances. Sandra’s presentation ran through the notable individuals who she managed to trap into agreeing to an interview, and she was ably supported by a slideshow which was handled by her husband Jafar Ramini. Perhaps the most startling one was her interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono when she joined them in bed at the Hilton Hotel Amsterdam whilst they were protesting against wars in 1969! Many thanks to Frank for organising a terrific event!
