We had numerous visitors at this week’s meeting including over 30 School Leadership Team youngsters from Floreat Park, Woodlands, Wembley and Churchlands Primary Schools, together with Senior Staff from those schools plus a number of parents. They were all with us to celebrate the links we have with those and other schools, largely through the energetic efforts of our Member Jeremy Wood. The Guest Speaker for the day was Grace Young who is the Club Captain of the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club, and in December 2024 the SLSC acquired boat named ‘Rotary’ - facilitated by our Club and some generous donors. Grace has been very active in the surf for most of her life, and her attitude is to keep going! Furthermore, for every opportunity that comes one’s way, SAY YES! Grace has received many accolades during her young life and she cited her Bronze U19 Board Championship as the proudest one. After finishing her schooling Grace took a gap year so that she could follow up a number of earlier surf connections, so she has contacts world-wide. Grace has also qualified as a jet ski driver and she has done a stint in the rescue helicopter that patrols our beaches!Laura O’Hara, Principal of Woodlands, paid tribute to Rotary’s support of the community, especially through the Polio-Plus programme around the world.
