Dr Graham Forward, is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and the founder & CEO of Australian Doctors for Africa which he set up in 2005 here in Perth following the Tsunami that hit Aceh on 26th December 2004.It is a not-for-profit organisation and is accredited by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Graham used his knowledge & skill in Orthopaedics & Robotics to assemble a team of orthopaedic surgeons, doctors & nurses, who volunteer their time for free, to work for 2 weeks a year, in Ethiopia,Madagasgar,Samaliland & Zimbabwe where they train & equip local doctors & nurses. To date they have sourced and sent 70 ,40 foot containers of equipment, to these countries, which enables them to train locals in Orthopaedics, Gastroenteritis, Urology Ear, Nose & Throat & Paediatric work. When they are ready to do their Fellowship, local Orthopaedic Surgeons are sent to France & Egypt, at a cost of Aus$15,000, to gain specialised training and they then come back to their own country where they put into practice the benefits of their training. Graham has been recognised for his services and been awarded an Order of Australia(AM), the John Curtin Medal & the Ethiopian Society of Orthopaedics & Traumatology Award.
