We had an ‘in-house’ Speaker arrangement this time with not one but two of our own doing the honours! Firstly we heard from our newest Member Geoff Ivanac who hails from Kalgoorlie originally, but came to Perth to study accounting at WAIT as it then was. Geoff worked as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG for about 20 years, at which point the travel bug got him and he headed off overseas for 3 years. When he got back he studied financial planning, and enjoyed dealing with Death and Taxes! He decided to open his own Financial Planning business and he takes great pride in understanding his Clients’ stories and helping them to plan for the new Longevity factor. Geoff gave us 3 quotes to reinforce his approach – from Satchel Paige (a US baseball player who debuted at 42 years old); John Lennon; and Susie O’Neill. On the personal front Geoff is a very fit and fanatical swimmer (including cold water swimming which is apparently good for one!), and enjoys playing tennis with his wife Tash. They have 3 rapidly growing up sons – Otto, Felix, and Raphy. Our Exchange Student Betty then took the floor to tell us all about Ceska Republika where she comes from. The Czech Republic is a mix of German and East European culture, and Betty lives in a 13th Century town of 13,000 people called Cesky Krumlov. Betty has five siblings and enjoys playing the accordion. She attends a school of about 500 pupils, and she advised us that her home country is rated the 7th safest country in the world. Betty illustrated her talk with slides and told us all about Czech food and the various celebrations that are acknowledged each year. She also let on that there are lots of castles and plenty of beer – which is very well priced and consumed enthusiastically! Thank you, Betty, for your talk!
